Overview of web projects

Developing web sites and web applications is where my core commercial skill set resides. I particularly enjoy working on bespoke web applications such as small scale KPI software, using the LAMP framework and Dynamic HTML.

This section contains my most recent web sites; they employ the most current web trends as well as utilising my full experience.

optimumresults.ie (October '10)
Commercial Project
Optimum Results

Optimumresults.ie Circa October 2010. For this project I developed my own Content Management System (CMS) from scratch using the LAMP platform. This allowed my colleagues to easily edit and create content for this site.

Skillsboost.com (August '10)
Commercial Project
Skillsboost (new)

Skillsboost.com Circa August 2010. All of the graphics and Web development were managed and created by me. I wanted to create a clean interface which had a minimal amount of text and used infographics (where possible) to convey information more effectively.

etrainthetrainer.com (June '10)
Commercial Project
eTrain The Trainer

This register for information page has an effective "register interest" form. But also contains a complete MOODLE training environment. Which itself contains a range of user guides, templates, presentations and e-learning content. This content was all designed and developed by me.

Skillsboost.com (April '10)
Commercial Project
Skillsboost (old)

Skillsboost.com Circa April 2010. Developed using the Joomla! Content Management System (CMS).

Storebug.com e-Commerce Website (Nov '09)
Commercial Project
Storebug

The web design for this project was created by me. I was also part of the development team and inherited the role of lead developer after approximately six months. Unfortunately due to poor software design and uncompromising scope creep this e-Commerce website did not get past the Beta testing stage.

Flash Video Player (XML-based)
Commercial Project

Flash video player created while working at Data-Knight Solutions. The video player parses an XML document (location specified as _level0 variable) and plays the specified video.

    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
<video> <info file="video/johnlayportfolio.flv" duration="0:06" /> </video>

Liquid Two Four Prototype (Jan '09)
Commercial Project
liquid two four prototype

This brief for this project was to create a Flash website integrated within the Joomla! Content Management System (CMS). This demo includes only the Flash content inside a mocked up PHP framework.
